From Trash to Treasure: Curved Architectures of Reclaimed Metal
Year: 2024

Medium: Metal work, welding, bending, pencil drawing, digital photography

While walking around Ubud, I encountered a significant amount of waste, including both plastic and metal offcuts. This observation inspired me to demonstrate that these discarded materials could be repurposed creatively. Given Bali's rich traditions in woodwork, painting, and silver making, it's common for metal offcuts to be left in bins, discarded without thought.

To explore this further, I set out to learn how to work with metal—specifically how to bend, cut, and weld it. The process proved to be very challenging, especially in the beginning, as achieving precision was quite difficult. My works reflect more of a learning curve than a polished final product. I utilized thin strips of metal to experiment with bending and twisting techniques, aiming to replicate the forms from my bamboo model pres ented in my project portfolio, "Bamboo Dance Studio."

This journey not only expanded my skills but also encouraged a conversation about sustainability and creative reuse in art and design.
