Expressions in Motion: Imprints of Ballet
Year: 2024
Medium:
Pencil drawing, physical model making using clay, digital photography
This project is a sculptural piece that captures the elegance and dynamism of ballet through a unique exploration of form and movement. Drawing from my deep-rooted connection to dance, I created a clay mold representing the five fundamental positions in ballet, which was then cut into six individual tiles for flexible rearrangement. This approach allows for an appreciation of the delicate interplay between each position, emphasizing how slight variations can evoke a range of choreography and expression. The textured surfaces of the tiles, formed from clay imprints, convey a sense of history while reflecting the grace inherent in dance. By merging the static nature of sculpture with the dynamic quality of movement, this work invites audiences to engage with the elegance of ballet in an innovative way. Through this piece, I hope to inspire a dialogue about the connections between dance, art, and the creative process, celebrating both the art form's beauty and its foundational elements.
