Sanctuary of Serenity: A Modern Bath House Inspired by Siena

Siena, also known as the "Land of Waters," is renowned for its natural hot springs and thermal baths, which are integral to its history and culture. Inspired by this, I designed a one-person bathhouse featuring layers, staircases, and ramps, all connected by overlapping archways. My process began with drawing over a map of an existing bath in Siena, adding pathways and stairs to create a dynamic layout. I then built a foam board model, incorporating oval steps made of card and molds for casting the archways. To integrate the arches into the main structure of the model, I included teeth on the archways that fit into corresponding slots in the base. The final piece is a clay model that effectively showcases both vertical and horizontal planes, capturing the essence of Siena’s architectural beauty and the serene experience of its thermal baths. Through this project, I aimed to connect the historical significance of these spaces with modern design practices.
