Bamboo Dance Studio: A Harmony of Movement and Tradition

During my workshop with Asali Bali, I designed a dance studio using bamboo, inspired by the choreography and fluid movements of traditional Balinese Legong dance. In the planning phase, I began by employing a variety of line weights to illustrate the footpath of a Legong routine. The design captures the fluidity and grace of the arm movements through gentle curves, contrasting with the sharp, straight lines that represent the precision of each position. One essential element of the dance is the coordinated movement of the eyes from left to right, which I also incorporated into the overall design. The intertwining bamboo structure complements the uniformity of the straight lines woven into the main wall of the dance studio, creating a harmonious blend of form and function that reflects the art of dance while celebrating the natural beauty of bamboo.
